Eight days til Echo!
This is one of Utah's most legendary triathlons, and we hope you'll join the party as a participant or volunteer.

As you probably heard from TriUtah, due to construction there's a slightly different "venue" this year than years past, simply 1.5 miles up the road at the Echo State Park North Shore.

Long story short, after checking it out yesterday we believe this course is even better than the original.

Here are a few observations we thought we'd share:

  • The start/finish area is awesome, with a lot of trees, shade, and a nice grassy area to hang out at before and after the race
  • Very cool swim start, running and jumping/diving/flipping/whatever you wanna do off a dock (one by one) similar to East Canyon
  • The swim finishes near some trees that should be easy to sight, and there's a very smooth swim out up a small boat ramp (very flat, not a steep ramp)
  • The water level is extremely high, and must be a nice temp... we didn't test the water ourselves, but there were a lot of people out swimming in just life jackets (and we presume/hope bathing suits)
  • As TriUtah notes, like the original course the transition area is a little rocky, so you may want to throw something on your feet as you exit the water. That said, probably not a necessity

roughly mile 2 and 22 of the bike course
  • Similar bike course as prior years, just continuing ~1.5 miles further before hitting the turnaround
  • Road conditions are vastly improved from years past. Like butter for the first (and last) 6 miles. In between there are some brief sections of chip seal, but overall so much better than it used to be on that main frontage road

  • The 2-loop run (for the Olympic) is an improvement in our opinion... it's easier to mentally break down the course and there should be an increased amount of low fives, friendly banter, and overall camaraderie on the course
  • Again, the finish area and post-race atmosphere will be sweet!

If you enjoy Utah Tri Buzz and would like to pitch in, any amount would be greatly appreciated... (there may be something in it for you as well!)

We're also always grateful for talented people who contribute in terms of time... let us know if you'd like to be part of the Utah Tri Buzz team.
