Are we still all systems go for the Bear Lake Brawl on Sep 19th?

The only way this will be shut down is if the governor of Idaho or Utah shut it down because they change their rules. All permits are in place under current conditions.

You've been able to hold some running races lately + the Cache Valley indoor tri, correct? How have those gone and what precautions have been implemented?

We have held 3 races over the last 60 days. They have been great. Yes with covid restrictions they are not the same format but they have been fun and safe. We use plastic shields at the aid stations. We have delayed starts.

We do not have gatherings at the start or finish. We do this by having grab and go bags at the finish line. They have food, water bottle, finisher medal, etc. Awards Ceremony do not happen and awards are mailed a week later.

The list of participants is growing quickly, and is the rumor true there's also a prize purse?? If so how did that come about?

Yes there is a prize purse. We are working with a pro group that is donating $15,000 to professional triathletes in the Half Distance. Sorry you have to be a professional triathlete to race in the pro category and qualify for the purse. It will be cool for everyone to race with the pros though!

What can you tell us about the course and venue for people not familiar with it?

If you have not raced Bear Lake the course is one of the prettiest courses for triathlon in the country. Bear Lake is extremely blue water like the Caribbean. The Bike Course for the Full and Half do a loop around the lake with some rolling hills on the East Side that the Sprint and Olympic will see.

The course is fairly flat on bike and run with around 100 feet of variation in the bike. Almost zero in the run. The water for the race is beautiful but the water is cold in July. The water temp this time of the year has always been between 60 to 66 degrees. September can be a cooler morning start so be prepped for that. We have ranged 39 degrees to 78 degrees. 39 was a rare cold front that blew in the night prior but that afternoon was around 65.

Anything else you want to share?

This is a fun race and we have worked very hard to get our triathlon times perfect. We use a combination of timing chip as well as tablets to mark the splits. This race will sell out in 2020 due to covid size restrictions and the demand for races due to cancellations.

FOUR distances to choose from: Full (140.6), Half (70.3), Olympic and Sprint!

Sadly it's clear there won't be enough events for a 2020 Series Championship, but have no fear!  We'll come back with a vengeance in 2021.
