Utah Age Group Rankings 2021: Round 2

With Jordanelle now behind us, it's time for the official "Round 2" of our rankings.

First of all, reminder below about the end of season party next month!

SAVE THE DATE! Like 2019, we're working with local tri clubs to throw an all-inclusive, end of season party... THURS, SEP 30th ~5:00-8:00 at the University Guest House on the U of U campus. Come enjoy some good company and food as we also hand out season awards and celebrate locals competing at Kona (sadly Kona postponed to Feb '22)

We stand & applaud everyone who has qualified for the rankings. Regardless of individual rank, these are all people who enjoy the friendly competition and camaraderie of the Utah Triathlon Championship Series and who support the local scene.

Think about it, how many people stayed in bed while you were out testing your limits??

How many others are active, yet too chicken to ever toe a start line??

Kudos to everyone in the rankings... you're fighters who are strong in both body & mind!

Lastly, keep in mind this is for FUN. The intention is to build some hype and intrigue throughout the local tri season, as we've strived to do since 2016... please don't take it too seriously.

The methodology is simple:

* To be eligible for Round 2 Rankings, must have raced at least 2 of the 7 events on the Utah Triathlon Championship Series calendar to date

* Like last year, rankings will be updated throughout the season and will of course change as more people qualify. Only 2 races are needed for Round 2 rankings, but a minimum of 3 will be required for the final rankings.

Round 1 (Jun): 2 race minimum (average of your top 2 races)
Round 2 (Aug): 2 race minimum (average of your top 2 races)
Round 3 (end of season): 3 race minimum (average of your top 3 races)

* The final rankings will be the basis for several “Most Improved Triathlete" and many other awards at the end of season Awards Night, not just for Championship Belt Holders and other elite-level athletes.

* Like prior years, we'll take the AVERAGE of everyone’s top 3 series races for the final rankings… this provides some incentive to get out and race often, as you can only help yourself by racing more. For example, if you had an off day, or even a DNF, that result will shake out of your top 3 average if you raced 4+ times.

* We use your Overall % to calculate the rankings (which is shown in all the individual race “Results Breakdowns” we post). This is simply how you placed vs. the field - if you placed 60th out of 100 at a race, that’s 60%. If you placed 80th out of 200 at another, that’s 40%. In this case those two then average to 50%.

Your 50% average would then be stacked up to other qualifying triathletes for the rankings.

Next races up in the Series before final rankings:

1) Mar 27:  Ice Breaker
2) May 1:  St. George 70.3
3) May 22:  Sand Hollow - Olympic
4) Jun 5:  Daybreak - Olympic (State Champs!)
5) Jun 12:  East Canyon - Olympic
6) Jul 10: Echo - Olympic
7) Aug 14: Jordanelle - Olympic
8) Sep 11: Brineman - Half (70.3)
9) Sep 11: Kokopelli - Olympic
10) Sep 18: Bear Lake Brawl - Half (70.3)
11) Sep 17-18: St. George 70.3 Worlds

So if you've raced 2 Championship Series races so far, it only takes 1 of these to qualify for final rankings.

Keep in mind that most of the Series events have non-Championship Series options as well (for example Brineman sprint & Olympic). For these the emphasis is less on results, rankings, etc. and more on getting people out to experience triathlon.

Without further adieu, here's the Round 2 WALL OF FAME... scroll down to see splits by gender and age group as well!

By column: current ranking, movement from the last rankings post, name, average of top 2 races (finishing place divided by # participants in the race = percentile), # of UTCS races they've done, age group, age group rank

Results Breakdown: Jordanelle 2021

Congrats to everyone who participated at Jordanelle! It takes guts to show up to race, and we commend everyone who got after it on Saturday.

TriUtah's Jordanelle (race #7 of the Utah Triathlon Championship Series) is a legendary Utah venue and we're stoked to have Race Director Dan Aamodt back on the scene!

SAVE THE DATE! Like 2019, we're working with local tri clubs to throw an all-inclusive, end of season party... THURS, SEP 30th ~5:00-8:00 at the University Guest House on the U of U campus. Come enjoy some good company and food as we also hand out season awards and send off locals competing at Kona!

Next up in the Series!

1) Mar 27:  Ice Breaker
2) May 1:  St. George 70.3
3) May 22:  Sand Hollow - Olympic
4) Jun 5:  Daybreak - Olympic (State Champs!)
5) Jun 12:  East Canyon - Olympic
6) Jul 10: Echo - Olympic
7) Aug 14: Jordanelle - Olympic

For Kokopelli, note there's a sprint distance option available as a non-Championship Series race. For Brineman and the Bear Lake Brawl, there are both sprint and Olympic distance options available as non-Championship Series races.

For 70.3 Worlds qualifiers, a points bonus will be added to that race's results calculations to adjust for the higher level of competition throughout the field.

Below is the results breakdown for Jordanelle, and this post explains what this is if you need a refresher.

Basically, like we do for all Utah Triathlon Championship Series races, we crunch some #'s to show your percentile vs. the field for each discipline. The lower % the better, and this look helps you track your own performance year over year, race to race.
