Utah Triathlon Championship Series 2024!

Below is an overview of the 2024 Utah Triathlon Championship Series!

In theory the lineup could change slightly, but here's how it looks as of now. Scroll down for additional details as well as registration links.

Showing up at 3 or more of these races qualifies you for swag & season awards. Get out and race!

Overview
  • The 2024 UTCS consists of 12 events from Mar - Oct, in addition to a State Champs race & party welcoming all abilities and experience levels
  • The State Champs venue rotates annually. Brineman (Oly) hosted in 2018, Salem (Sprint) in 2019, the Bear Lake Brawl (Half) in 2020, Daybreak (Oly) in 2021, Echo (Oly) in 2022, East Canyon (Oly) in 2023, and we're heading back to Daybreak (Oly) with its new AUGUST date for 2024!
  • Like prior years, most events in the series will have ONE distance that counts towards age group rankings, season awards, etc. For example, the Olympic distance is the official series race for Jordanelle.
  • The intent of this is two-fold: 1) it builds prestige for the official Series races and a standardized process for season awards 2) there's less "pressure," no results analysis, rankings implications, etc, for the non-series distance(s). This would be a good option for someone who just wants to come out and enjoy the day, someone coming back from injury, using the race as a training day, etc.
  • We hope this format will continue to grow participation across the board, as people can self-select races according to their goals and what they want to get out of race day
  • NEW for 2024, TriUtah will be hosting the USAT Cross Nationals, which has been added to our Champ Series lineup!
  • The breakdown of 2024 Series races is 1 Sprint, 9 Olympics (including Cross Nationals), and 4 Halfs (70.3)

let's go!!

Based on 2023 participation, here are the races comprising the Championship Series for 2024:

1) March 23: ICEBREAKER - SPRINT

2) May 4: IRONMAN 70.3 ST. GEORGE

3) June 8: SAND HOLLOW - OLYMPIC

4) June 22: JORDANELLE - OLYMPIC

5) July 13:  ECHO - OLYMPIC & HALF!

6) August 10: EAST CANYON - OLYMPIC

7) August 17: DAYBREAK - OLYMPIC
          (UTCS STATE CHAMPS!)

8) Sep 6: BRINEMAN - OLYMPIC & HALF!

9) Sep 14: KOKOPELLI - OLYMPIC

10) Sep 14: USAT Cross Nationals

11) Sep 14: BEAR LAKE BRAWL - HALF

12) Oct 26: SOUTHERN UTAH TRI - OLYMPIC

Structure (same as prior years)
  • Similar to European soccer (e.g. England's Premier League), the Championship Series will include a system of "promotion" and "relegation"
  • This means that races NOT in the Championship Series one year can be "promoted" into it the following year if they out-draw races currently in the series
  • This occurred in 2019, with the now extinct Dino Triathlon earning a spot in the Series based on the # of participants it drew
  • In that example, the race(s) currently in the series would get "relegated" AKA bumped out for the following year
  • This way, the tri community as a whole decides what races make up the Championship Series any given year… it's up to RD's to promote their races and athletes to support the races they choose
Awards (same as prior years)
  • Utah Tri Buzz rankings, Age Group awards, Championship Belt Holders, Most Improved Triathletes, Rookies of the Year, the 2024 WALL OF FAME (3+ Series races participants) and other swag for the season will be based on the Championship Series (average of top 3 races like previous years)
  • We also want to continue driving a local culture of volunteering at races & supporting each other; those who go above and beyond will be recognized for their efforts!
  • You don't have to race the Daybreak State Champs race to qualify for season awards. However, like prior years the rankings system will include a 5% points bonus for those who do race the State Champs (factored into the season scoring)

In summary, will be fun!  Support the local scene!

Utah Age Group Rankings 2023: FINAL WALL OF FAME

With the last Utah Triathlon Championship Series race now behind us, it's time for final season rankings, aka the WALL OF FAME. Congrats to everyone who qualified by racing 3+ UTCS races!

***If you are on this list, we have some Utah Tri Buzz swag for you! We'll be reaching out in the very near future.***

We stand & applaud everyone who has qualified for the final rankings. Regardless of individual rank, these are all people who enjoy the friendly competition and camaraderie of the Utah Triathlon Championship Series and who support the local scene.

Think about it, how many people stayed in bed while you were out testing your limits??

How many others are active, yet too chicken to ever toe a start line??

Kudos to everyone in the rankings... you're fighters who are strong in both body & mind!

Lastly, keep in mind this is for FUN. The intention is to build some hype and intrigue throughout the local tri season, as we've strived to do since 2016... please don't take it too seriously.

The methodology is simple:

* To be eligible for the Final Rankings, must have raced at least 3 events on the Utah Triathlon Championship Series calendar

Show up at 3 or more of the 13 total Series races (Olympic + Half at Echo and Brineman) to qualify for 2023 season swag & awards!

* Like prior years, rankings will be updated throughout the season and will of course change as more people qualify. Keep in mind a minimum of 3 will be required for the final rankings.

Round 1 (Jun): 2 race minimum (average of your top 2 races)
Round 2 (Sep): 2 race minimum (average of your top 2 races)
Round 3 (end of season): 3 race minimum (average of your top 3 races)

* The final rankings will be the basis for several “Most Improved Triathlete" and many other season awards, not just for Championship Belt Holders and other elite-level athletes.

* Like prior years, we take the AVERAGE of everyone’s top 3 series races for the final rankings… this provides some incentive to get out and race often, as you can only help yourself by racing more. For example, if you had an off day, or even a DNF, that result will shake out of your top 3 average if you raced 4+ times.

* We use your Overall % to calculate the rankings (which is shown in all the individual race “Results Breakdowns” we post). This is simply how you placed vs. the field - if you placed 60th out of 100 at a race, that’s 60%. If you placed 80th out of 200 at another, that’s 40%. In this case those two then average to 50%.

Your 50% average would then be stacked up to other qualifying triathletes for the rankings.

Keep in mind that most of the Series events have non-Championship Series options as well (for example the Daybreak sprint distance, Echo sprint distance, etc.). For these the emphasis is less on results, rankings, etc. and more on getting people out to participate & experience triathlon.

Without further adieu, here's the FINAL WALL OF FAME... keep scrolling down to see splits by gender and age group as well!
