Utah Triathlon Championship Series: The Corona Cup??

Within the realm of possibility if we're smart over the next month?? Fingers crossed...

Below is a summary of the potential 2020 Utah Triathlon Championship Series, brought to you by TrentPerry.com!

Scroll down for additional details as well as registration links, and stay tuned for more info as we receive it.

Overview
  • The 2020 Utah Triathlon Championship Series might(!) consist of 7 total races from June - September, including a State Championship race & party welcoming all abilities and experience levels
  • The State Champs venue rotates annually. TriUtah's Brineman (Olympic) hosted in 2018, RaceTri's Salem (Sprint) in 2019, and USTriSports famous DAYBREAK (Olympic) will play host on June 6, 2020! In the event Daybreak can't go, it will host in 2021 instead
  • Like 2019, each event in the series will have ONE distance that counts towards rankings, season awards, etc. For example, the Olympic distance was selected as the official series race for Echo.
  • The intent of this is two-fold: 1) it builds prestige for the official Series races and a standardized process for season awards 2) there's less "pressure," no results analysis, rankings implications, etc, for the non-series distance(s). This would be a good option for someone who just wants to come out and enjoy the day, someone coming back from injury, using the race as a training day, etc.
  • We hope that this format will continue to grow participation across the board, as people can self-select races according to their goals and what they want to get out of race day
  • The breakdown of 2020 Championship Series races in this corona recovery scenario would be 4 Olympics, 2 Halfs, and Ironman St. George

Based on 2019 participation, here are the races that HOPEFULLY will comprise the Championship Series for 2020:

1) June 6: DAYBREAK - OLYMPIC

2) July 11:  ECHO - OLYMPIC

3) Aug 8:  JORDANELLE - OLYMPIC

4) Aug 22: CAMP YUBA - HALF

5) Sep 12: BRINEMAN - HALF

6) Sep 12: KOKOPELLI - OLYMPIC

7) Sep 19: IRONMAN ST. GEORGE

Awards (same as last year)
  • Utah Tri Buzz rankings, age group awards, Championship Belt Holders, Most Improved Triathletes, Rookies of the Year and other swag for the season will be based on the Championship Series (average of top 2 or 3 races depending on how many we get!)
  • We also want to continue driving a local culture of volunteering at races & supporting each other; those who go above and beyond will be recognized for their efforts!
  • You don't have to race the Daybreak State Champs race to qualify for season awards. However, the rankings system will include a significant points bonus for those who do race the State Champs

In summary, will be fun!  Support the local scene!

If you enjoy Utah Tri Buzz and would like to pitch in, any amount would be greatly appreciated... (there may be something in it for you as well!)

We're also always grateful for talented people who contribute in terms of time... let us know if you'd like to be part of the Utah Tri Buzz team.
