Here's a summary (click on the below content for a larger image), followed by some separate info from Brice. Fascinating stuff!
From Brice:
So, a little background in how I got into INSCYD and why I'm doing consulting for athletes.
I've been following INSCYD for a few years now. I was impressed with how they have helped pro cycling teams win big tours like the Tour de France in years past. I have also watched pro triathletes like Jan Frodeno, Lucy Charles-Barclay and others raise their performance with INSCYD testing, even after many years of being at the top of their fields.
Having done a PhD in neuroscience and learning that "studies" aren't always really proving what they claim, I turned a critical eye to the science behind the platform. So far, they have passed the sniff test, and even been very transparent to the science behind the testing.
When they launched the power-performance decoder platform I knew this was likely to be a game-changer, if it was reliable. The claim was that it provides a way to reliably test an athlete in their own home with their own equipment, lower cost and as much reliability as lactate testing and VO2 breath analysis in the lab.
It would also be easier to repeat over time, adding in the ability to track progress more easily and check effectiveness of training approaches. Now that the power performance decoder has been tested by many athletes across the globe and verified in the lab multiple times over, I have confidence in its reliability.
The test is fairly easy to perform conceptually (perhaps not physically), and most people have the equipment required in their own home. It can be coupled with lactate testing to ensure reliability, but this is not really necessary.
I hope to be able to help the Utah triathlon athletes that are interested in improving their training and race performance. Hopefully people reach out and take advantage of this amazing technology to which we now have access. I'm happy to go over the results with people and their coaches to better understand how that athlete will likely respond to different training stimuli and help them not waste time doing training sessions that will yield minimal progress.
In addition, the testing platform will give insight into an athlete's metabolic efficiency and demand. This info is very helpful when it comes to developing race nutrition plans and being able to practice their race nutrition in training.
Access to the testing software has a cost each time I run the test. I'm willing to put forth the cost of the test ahead of time, get the results for the athlete, go over the results and give them some direction, all without any commitment for payment.
If the athlete then feels like they benefitted, they are invited to reimburse what they can, usually around $100, again, cheaper than most consultations alone, let alone a complete metabolic and physiologic assessment with the consultation. I'm doing this mostly for fun and helping people achieve their goals.
Triathlon is an expensive sport both with regard to time and money. This would be one thing that might save you some valuable time (in the form of wasted training and poor race performance), hopefully with little to no money investment.
